While he was transmitting from his other station, his wife alerted him to smoke coming from his ICPRO in another room. NOTE: The following two photos depict an extreme and rare example. The pictures below show a worst-case scenario. The collector voltage should be around If left unchecked, the situation may deteriorate until the damaged SMD components overheat and become charred, possibly damaging the circuit-board. The base voltage should be 0-volts RX, and 0. This test works because the attenuator interrupts the path of oscillation. The symptoms can be one or more of the following. This will not affect the 2-meter band on the series. But many times, the only noticeable issue is the transmitter will tend to oscillate intermittently on the higher HF bands 6, 10, or 12 meters.

Icom IC-756 PRO III Display upgrade and new VFO control Important Note: Although I have first-hand knowledge of the damaged circuitry and the necessary repairs, I only have second-hand knowledge as to the cause of damage, which was acquired by interviewing customers about their station setups and operating practices.

Failure of the backlight is a fairly common problem. KH2GOct 5, NU4YOct 6, K2ANZOct 6, If the radio is working but the display seems out, look very closely to see if you can see the image. We have that as something always on the mind out on Guam. Please, any ideas? Last edited: Oct 5, K2ANZOct 5, First question - how high is your humidity on average? Have you cleaned all contacts relevant to display? The humidity can play havoc with digital displays over time. If I will use radio more often, I don't see any problem. Everything works fine, but if I will not power radio up during long time monthand I will turn it on, radio starts booting, but display will light in sec. VE1ICAug 20, I did that crossing fingers and same.QRZ Forums. Make sure all the board screws are tight. Last edited: Aug 20, N8ZJAug 20, Open it up, reseat all the cables and the DSP module. I checked battery measured 3v like it supposed to but didn't do draw test so could be a culprit still I guess.įigured I would see if anyone had any ideas before I start running tests and get into the radio more. I took covers off and don't see nothing burnt or anything bad. So by killing the power off and on it will sometimes boot and work and sometimes it won't work at all.
I then shut it back off and pushed power button and black screen again and nothing works at all again but the meter light.
Then I did same by unplugging then plugging it in it turned on and everything worked again like there was no problems at all. I then unplugged and plugged it back in few times and black screen again with meter light on and rest of radio not working again. It went to the loading screen and stopped at end but screen and everything seemed like it was going to work till it froze. I waited 5 min then plugged it back in and it came back on. So I reset it and when I did it just went to black lighted screen and light for s-meter works but nothing else does no volume nothing. Then all of a sudden on 80 meter I was having A conversation with a fellow ham and I noticed the scope screen was glitching out. I have been using the radio for a at least 3 weeks without a problem. Radio is in great shape and I turned it on and inspected it when I bought it and it worked great.
I Acquired the radio from a gentleman that found it in a storage auction so I am sure it sat for a few years in there not being used.
